Setting your drag properly

Tie it step by step

   Thread the line through the guides and tie to a spring scale.

   Hold the rod at fighting angle and pull until the drag slips.

   Adjust so it slips at about a quarter of your line's rated strength.

   Re-check after the leader knot is added; the knot is your real limit.

   Back the drag off a touch when using thin braid or fine hooks.
